Fort Sill is home to the United States Army Field Artillery School, the United States Army Air Defense Artillery School, and the 31st Air Defense Artillery Brigade. Fort Sill is one of five Army bases that provide Army Basic Combat Training. A detachment of the United States Marine Corps is also stationed at Fort Sill. Fort Sill is located near Lawton, Oklahoma, southwest of Oklahoma City. Housing at Fort Sill is provided by the Housing Management Division and offers over 1,400 family housing units. Housing includes single, duplex, and four-plex dwelling units with fenced yards. For assistance with both on-post and off-post housing, personnel must fill out a DD Form 1746. Homes for rent and for sale are available in nearby communities and include apartment complexes. Call 580-442-4949 for further information and to determine applicable BAH rates for those seeking off-post residences. Temporary lodging is provided by Fort Sill Lodging which is located in Building 5676. The billeting office offers reservation services 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and can be contacted at 580-442-5000. Rooms may be reserved up to 60 days in advance. Guest lodging has very limited facilities for pets, and lodging personnel must be notified in advance.
Students who are in kindergarten through sixth grade and who live on post attend one of two public schools: Geronimo Road Elementary or Sheridan Road Elementary. If military personnel are within 90 days of relocating and plan to live on base, children can be enrolled in the Lawton Public school system. The school district offers daycare facilities at 26 sites throughout the district. Free bus transportation is provided for elementary students who live 1 mile or more from their assigned schools. Several private schools are also available. For more specific information regarding school districts and programs, contact the School Liaison office for Fort Sill at 580-442-4831. Home schooling information can be obtained by contacting the LAWTON-Home Educators’ Resource Organization at 4612 NE Columbia Avenue, Lawton, OK. The Tincher Child Development Center offers full day care for children from 6 weeks to 6 years of age as well as youth programs and summer day camps.
